The Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) Coaching Clinic recently took place on the baseball diamond of Sai Tso Wan Recreation Ground between the 17th to 19th January, 2014. More than thirty local baseball coaches received quality coaching from Chinese Taipei Baseball Association coaches, Jong Yeu-Jeng, Wang Chen-Hao, Chou Cheng-Hsiung.

Coach Wang, a prominent player during his playing days in the Chinese Professional Baseball League, offered some hearty advises for his students from the coaching clinic. “Our instructors came over this time with the intention of improving the Hong Kong baseball coaches,” Wang said. “The students have demonstrated their great potential over the past few days but they do need to strengthen their foundation on various basic skills in order to achieve better future improvements.”

Veteran Leung Yu-chung, nominee of the Samsung 2013 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, represented Hong Kong in the Tianjin 6th East Asian Games, took part in the coaching clinic and appreciated the opportunity. “Hong Kong baseball has always enjoyed a tight relationship with our Taiwanese counterparts,” Leung explained. “Through the three visiting coaches, you can tell that they have put in a lot of preparation for this coaching clinic, allowing the students to pick up a lot of valuable knowledge from the drills and instructions.”

Hung Yik-shan, member of the Hong Kong Women’s Baseball Team, also endorsed the coaching clinic with a great thumbs-up. “All the Taiwanese instructors in the coaching clinic are experienced coaches in their own right and they have undoubtedly improved my own coaching knowledge with their useful pointers,” Hung maintained. “We used to have Japanese instructors in previous coaching clinics and just to be able to expose myself to different baseball styles will allow me to pick out what suits my own coaching routine the best.”
