2018 FISU World University Baseball Championship

Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA) was invited to select student-athletes to participate in the 2018 FISU World University Baseball Championship (2018 FISU WUBC) that to be held on 6-15 July 2018 at Chiayi City, Chinese Taipei.  This is the very first time for Hong Kong to participate in a FISU event, Home Affairs Bureau has approved a grant from the sports portion of the Arts and Sport Development Fund (ASDF) for preparation for and participation in the 2018 FISU WUBC. 

The Coaching Staff is included well experience coaches in Hong Kong Team, Sean Au, Cheung On-kiu, and appointed Pat Ahearne who is a former MLB pitcher be the Head Coach.  Players were selected from the Hong Kong Team and the local university league.  There are eight participating teams: Australia, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Russia and USA.  In the first round, eight teams will be divided into two groups play a single round then go to consolidation and final.  Hong Kong is in group B with Japan, Russia and USA while Australia, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic and Korea in group A.

Hong Kong met Australia again in the Finals 7th-8th on 14 July. Hong Kong got 3 runs at the bottom of the 2nd inning. Australia scored 6 runs after finishing six innings (2 runs and 4 runs at the top of 5th inning and 6th inning respectively). Hong Kong tried hard to defense throughout 7th to the 9th inning, Australia got no more score but Hong Kong could not get more run in the game. Australia finished the game at 7th while Hong Kong stays at 8th.

This is the first ever for Hong Kong to play in FISU event, it is a very valuable experience.  Let's work for next target.
