Level 1 (Elementary) Baseball Coach Certification Program Wraps up with Great Success

The Level 1 (Elementary) Baseball Coach Certification Program completed under glorious sunshine in Sai Tso Wan Baseball Field recently. As usual, this year’s coaching program received tremendous support by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), with the sport’s governing body assigning experienced baseball coach to Hong Kong to lead the event, which should allow all the participants to reap rich rewards from the clinic.

Peter Caliendo, former member of the Team USA coaching staff, led the clinic for the second time in Hong Kong. The baseball veteran was pleased with the students’ positive attitude during the course. “It is a rather young group of coaches on hand and they showed great enthusiasm during the clinic and were always asking questions,” observed Caliendo. “It is very important for Hong Kong to keep having such coaching program because a qualified baseball coach can pass on accurate baseball knowledge to young players, which can only help them to become better players down the road.”

Wong Yin-wah, who played for Hong Kong Bravo in the “Phoenix Cup” Hong Kong International Baseball Tournament, believes attending the coaching program will help her better understand the role of a baseball coach. “I have only assisted on an informal role during the local promotion courses and I cannot really say I am a baseball coach,” Wong explained. “However, it is a great opportunity to observe the works of such an experienced instructor and receiving coaching tips from him personally will serve me very well on the baseball field.”
